Preparing for Surgery
When you schedule your surgery, you will be given a surgical packet with instructions specific to your surgery.
Please inform your healthcare providers of all medications you are taking. Five days prior to your surgery date, you will need to stop all anti-inflammatories (e.g., Advil, Aleve, ibuprofen, naproxen). You may take Tylenol for pain. Other medications that need to be discontinued before surgery:
- Aspirin, Coumadin/Warfarin, Xarelto, Pradaxa (5 days)
- Phentermine (7 days)
- Plavix (10 days)
- Suboxone (36 days)
If on blood thinners (Coumadin/Warfarin), we will arrange to have you bridged so you can have your surgery. We will make arrangements with the McKay-Dee Anticoagulation Clinic to manage your care.
Be aware, we may delay your surgery if you have an acute injury that has caused swelling and lack of motion that will affect recovery.
The surgery center will call you the day before surgery to let you know what time you need to arrive for surgery.
Do NOT eat or drink after 11:00 PM the night before surgery. This includes gum, water, and mints.
Shower the evening before and the morning of your surgery with anti-bacterial soap. Please do not shave the affected limb within 48 hours prior to surgery.
Please wear loose-fitting clothes to the surgical center.
If your phone number changes, or if you decide to cancel or reschedule your surgery, please contact the surgery scheduler as soon as possible.
